Old Southern Pottery Apothecary Jar Item sold Old Southern Pottery Apothecary Jar. This type form makes it hard to pinpoint the exact location of manufacture. Several things stand out. Very white clay. Glaze was poured on (not dipped). Lime-based alkaline glaze. Wire cut bottom. Tooled base edge. Large content of kaolin in clay. Unfortunately this could be places in SC or Southern GA. Good condition but with old chip on lip. Lots of firing creases due to the high Kaolin content. 9 inches tall. From later half of the nineteenth century.
