Lanier Meaders Early 1978 Face Jug Georgia Pottery

Item sold

This is a Lanier Meaders Face Jug from 1978. This jug was made in the short period where Lanier experimented with using clay teeth instead of rock teeth. The rock teeth were problematic because they did not expand and contract like the clay during firing. For about a year (1978), Lanier made his clay teeth large and flat like this one exemplifies then they became smaller and rounder which the majority of his face jugs display. This jug is in perfect condition and has an unusual but highly attractive glaze. It is also rather small at 8 1/4 inches tall which is also a little unusual. Signed on the bottom Lanier Meaders.
